Man beat me to the punch, beat us all! we all look like fools. First off Let me say, pretty decent list. pretty decent. A number of things I haven't listened to much or occasionally at all. A few I haven't even heard of.

I like the high ranking of the Paavoharju. I might have moved it up a little farther but I'm definetly glad to see them getting thier due all over the place. they are clearly insane geniuses and I hope we can all start to love finland and say icelandshmiceland.
I also love your high rating of cut copy, I couldn't stop listening to that especially this summer. The M83 was awesome too although wasn't it you who was saying they were overrated? change of heart?
The bonnie ought to be moved up for sure. And I didn't even know there was a new Daedalus album. geez.
Mistakes:
Neon Neon? Why do people like that? I mean I feel like it was sort of okayish, especially if I was dancing, but nothing to write home about, or rank above bonnie. or hercules and love affair especially.
Girl Talk. I mean he's good, I know and he's up their on my last.fm, I know. But for some reason I'm getting tired of him. I don't know...maybe I'm a fool.
Dodos, Couldn't get into them, feel like they are overated.
Ruby Suns. I just don't know. Honestly I haven't listened to it enough to know, but I coul never get into it and I never felt like putting it on. It's probably good though. But album of the year?
Foolish Omissions: I'm not gonna list really obscure things, but come one here, I may have said icelandshmiceland but the new sigur ros didn't even make top 30? Did you forget about it? Crystal Castles? Health? (at least better than neon neon) There are probably more but I can't think of them now.
Overall, pretty decent list, and you got a lot of the same heavy hitters i got, with some interesting others thrown in for good measure. not too shabby. some stuff for me to check out a little closer too.

ReplyDeletei forgot about sigur ros. i forgot to ever listen to max richter except for one time, but i did like it. also, we've been over this m83 thing before. i thought their last album was the absolute worst, but this one is real good. don't like health at all.

jonny, don't worry my friend, I was just trying to be supportive of jim's list and carry on a conversation. I spent most of this year listening to either delicious drone/ambient albums or lo-fi psych noise tapes (ripped to illegally downloaded mp3s of course). Although in the last month i did get back into rap and super gay neo-italo disco/chiptune. While there will still be some indie rock/pop hangers on, my list is definetly on its way. let's hope for next year! The end of all time signitures and identifiable instruments!
Also jim, additionally, for future reference it will be a more fun read and make for better argueing for or against your face if you actually provide some information or feelings or thoughts about at least a few of the albums on your list, don't you think? Either do it retroactively or at least take heed.
